Brownwood Downtown Plan
The City of Brownwood is updating the Downtown Master Plan. This work will be happening throughout 2023 and into early 2024. Please use this website to stay up to date on the progress, proposals and ways to get involved!

The Brownwood City Council adopted the Downtown Plan in March 2024 and is now looking at implementation of the first set of recommended projects.
Project Purpose
Updating and expanding on the vision and successes of the prior Downtown Master Plan from 2002/2003, this plan will put specific focus on the public investments that the City can or should undertake to support a vibrant future for Downtown Brownwood.

Project Initiation
Initial project setup, preparations, and kickoff.
Analysis & Visioning
Analyzing the existing context and conditions and aligning stakeholders around a unifying vision, set of goals, and guiding principles for Downtown.
Land Use, Districts & Character Plan
Exploring and establishing land uses, districts, and character areas for Downtown.
Development Opportunities & Catalyst Projects
Identifying opportunities for development and redevelopment in Downtown and generating high-level concepts for key catalyst projects.
Public Realm & Design Elements
Making recommendations related to the public spaces and built environment in Downtown.
Implementation & Action Plan
Creating an action plan to guide implementation of the recommendations.
Draft Plan Release
Public review and comment period for the draft plan. Comment period will open February 26, 2024 in conjunction with a public open house event that same day. Check the "get involved" tab at the top of the page for more information regarding that event!
Adoption
City Council will consider and discuss the plan at their 3/26 meeting.
